  1. where can I find good ideas to decorate a teen boys bedroom besides Pottery Barn?

    October 27, 2010 by admin

For teen boys less is more. No theme or over decoration. Color is great though. Work with what he already has, no sense going out and buying nice furniture when he’ll be off to college soon anyways. A coat of paint, some new bedding and some simple art is all you need. If he has friends over a lot, make it a space where they can hang out with seating and access to their game systems, movie. music, whatever he’s into. I wouldn’t try and put chinsy art and decorative items around on his nightstand or dresser though. Teen boys tend to not appreciate this sort of thing.

Modern, clean and paired down is great for boys. A couple bold colors paired with a neutral like gray, black, white or khaki is great. Orange, Blue and Yellow are great colors to use as long as their strong and bold rather than soft and pastel.

Here are some pictures to get you going:

  2. I need ideas on decorating my childrens bedroom, problem is it has to be unisex I have 2 boys and a girl.?

    October 17, 2010 by admin

I need ideas quick I have 2 boys and a girl, my baby girl is 1 and will be 2 so we didn’t want to put her in her own room just yet. I was thinking of dividing the room in half, but how can I decorate it without doing Sponge Bob who is unisex. Any unisex character theme ideas out there help me out.

Why cartoon characters? Kids interests change so fast, you’ll be redecorating before you know it. Besides, why push commercialism on kids that small? Try something more generic…like a beach theme, with a lighthouse and a boat…that sort of thing. Or an aquarium. All kids like fish. And who’s to say what is "for boys" and "for girls"? You could easily do a sports themed room, or a cowboy/cowgirl room.

  3. Child bedroom decorating ideas needed?

    October 8, 2010 by admin

Hi there. Our 3 youngest children are going to share a huge bedroom. Ages 5, 3, and 2. The 2 oldest will be getting new beds, and the youngest a toddler bed. We need to paint and put in a new floor etc. I am wondering what colors, decorating ideas you all have for a boy/girl bedroom. Thanks! I am excited!

  4. I need a bedroom decorating idea for two boys that are 11 & 9. I am not into cartoon characters or anything.?

    October 5, 2010 by admin

I want to redo their room in something that they will not grow out of really quick. So I was thinking of like doing blues or something. But, if you did that what would you hang on the walls? I don’t like posters…I think they look tacky. I want actual framed pictures, but can’t seem to find anything that is boy/age appropriate. Can you give me any ideas? I don’t mind a theme as long as it isn’t Spiderman, or some other character. That stuff is cute, but they grow out of it so quickly. By the way this is for one bedroom that the boys share. Please give me some good ideas! Thanks!

    Barney…. Yay!

  6. Any unique fairy theme bedroom decorating ideas for 2 little girls?

    September 25, 2010 by admin

We are remodeling our girls’ room and they are wanting a fairy theme. We already have the walls painted white with an allover sponge effect done in pink, so I’d like to mainly stick to that color and perhaps incorporate a bit of purple too. I’m looking for some creative ways to decorate using this theme. I am very crafty, so I would love to hear some DIY ideas although any other "thrifty" ideas are great too, since we are also remodeling our boys’ bedroom as well and are on a strict budget. Thank you!

If it isn’t too expensive, you can paint the crown molding the lavender or purple to add dimension. You can go to the halloween stores online now while the stuff is cheap or to Lillian Vernon and Oriental Trading Company and find the Fairy Wings that come in Costumes and Hang them above their beds or in the corner of the room.

There is this craft I made with my daughter a few years back of these flower fairies: with wooden beads as heads, pipe cleaner as bodies, and silk flowers as dresses. You can probably google it and find it easy enough but they can be hung up with fishing wire. Very cute.

Also think about painting the ceiling with a bunch of fluffy white clouds or hanging a cute chandelier you can get a garage or estate sale.

Oh yeah! I had one of those bed canopies on my daughters bed for years! Totally forgot about that!

  10. Any decorating ideas on boys Car themed bedroom?

    August 27, 2010 by admin

I am painting a mural of two of the "CARS" characters from the movie, we have picked out a bed thats a fire truck, and we are painting the other walls a light blue. However I am stuck at this point, I need other ideas to go with what I have choosen already. Black checkered flags in not what I am looking for, my son doesn’t favor nascar, or drag racing, he just likes cars! Oh the room is supurbly sized 12×14 with a walk in closet. Please I need help!

hi lillired, Ive seen this done before,my neighbor did his sons romm in a baseball motif and it looked great. Now,with the cars motif, how about doing it with the cars in a pit stop surrounding design?Pit crew men with their drills and the like and tires lying around,I think its a great idea! I hope I gave you some good ideas. Jan.

  11. Girl and boy sharing bedroom decorating advice?

    August 17, 2010 by admin

My two kids. are 7 year olds and will be sharing a room. One a girl and one a boy. What are some cute bedroom sets that will go together well or were meant to be together, that will look great in their room.

I wouldn’t go with a theme, I would make it colorful, like paint the walls and have neutral curtains and light fixtures but I would be sure that they each had a shelf or some kind of storage to call their own that they can have their things on. I would keep the bedspreads the same color but put pillows and little touches that are different on the beds. For example, a red ladybug pillow for her and a red car pillow for him. The ideas are endless in my head right now. I’m sure you’ll come up with something great and they’ll love it. Take care.

  13. I am decorating my 2 year old boys bedroom?

    August 6, 2010 by admin

has anybody any ideas how to make it appear bigger-it’s just a bit bigger than a box room. Many thanks

Mirrors, simple but very effective in making rooms feel bigger. (Assuming of course they are affixed properly so they do not fall). Or by painting a mural, cartoon or otherwise and including the mirror as part of the effect (best to have a mirror opposite to increase the effect of increased space).

I found it great fun painting a favorite cartoon onto a wall of a friends daughter’s room, takes a bit of drawing out first, but scaling up a simple cartoon is fairly simple and great for the kids. (And possibly the big kid painting it)

Whatever you do, have fun with it : )

  14. Practical Tips For Boys Bedroom Design

    August 2, 2010 by admin

Boys bedroom design can be challenging and unless your little guy has shown a great interest in one thing over the other, chances are you’ll still be making the interior decorating ideas from him. With a little openness to your little guys ideas and tastes, you may be able to gather from him what you need to create a bedroom that he’ll really enjoy for many years to come.

Unless you have some personal objection, it may be a good idea to start with his favorite color. When you’ve ascertained the color from him, you have just found which color you should paint his room. Other than that, you’ll probably have to do most of the decision making for him. If he hasn’t shown a great interest in anything in particular yet, this simply means that he’s taking his time deciding and you shouldn’t put too many other characters in his room because he may decide that he doesn’t like them. The last thing you want is for your child to feel uncomfortable in his own bedroom because he/she doesn’t like the pictures you put up in their room.

When you’ve chosen the color, decide whether you want wallpaper and paint in his room. Paint, more popular, is easy to apply and dries relatively quickly. Wallpaper, well, don’t get me started. Hours of scrubbing and pulling at wallpaper because it’s seriously stuck to the wall is no fun. Much easier to take a new color and replace the old with the new. Once the color or wallpaper is chosen and on the walls, the rest of your job for your boys bedroom design will be easy to complete.

Other than paint color, a nice decorative touch is to choose something that he’s shown interest in and build on that for his decor. If he loves to play with airplanes, maybe put a few model airplanes up in his room hanging from the ceiling. If he loves to play with pianos, maybe a wallpaper border of musical piano keys around the top of the walls in his room will be more appropriate. Whatever his tastes are, it’s a good idea to build on those. He will be spending a lot of time in this room as he grows; therefore, he should be comfortable in it. Yet, if he really hasn’t shown interest in one thing over another, then maybe just a color is enough for now. Decorative touches can always be added as his developing tastes choose a favorite.

Boys can be difficult when it comes to decorating. They are interested in the world around them and playing and having fun. It can be hard to get them to nail down items that they prefer, yet when they do, these can make for a wonderful boys bedroom design in which your little guy will spend some of the most important years of his life.
